Philanthropy Australia is delighted to welcome Krystian Seibert to the role. He has extensive experience shaping policy and regulatory frameworks, with a particular focus on philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector. Most recently, he served as an Associate Commissioner at the Productivity Commission, appointed by the Australian Government to jointly lead the Commission’s ‘once in a generation’ philanthropy inquiry.

Krystian, taking over from Sam Rosevear, was previously an Industry Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact at Swinburne University of Technology, delivering high quality education programs for the next generation of Australia’s social impact leaders. He has had a long association with Philanthropy Australia, having worked as its Advocacy and Insight Manager between 2014 and 2018, and then as its Policy and Regulatory Specialist in a part-time capacity, before joining the Productivity Commission.

An active participant in debates about the role and future of philanthropy both in Australia and beyond, he was guest editor of Alliance Magazine’s 2022 special feature on mental health philanthropy and has contributed articles to the The Conversation, The Age, The Australian and the Stanford Social Innovation Review.

Krystian is also Chair of Mental Health First Aid International, an Australian charity whose evidence-based mental health first aid training programs have been delivered to 7 million people in 29 countries around the world.

His passion for the not-for-profit sector was first ignited when he served as an adviser to a former Assistant Treasurer in the Australian Government between 2012-13, managing the delivery of major reforms including the establishment of Australia’s charities regulator, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
