PLACE: Philanthropy and government partner to empower communities
Philanthropy is partnering with federal government to develop a national, independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the needs and aspirations of local communities and addressing entrenched disadvantage. Five of Australia’s leading philanthropic bodies have matched the government’s investment of $19.3m over five years to establish Partnerships for Local Action and Community Empowerment (PLACE), it was announced this week.

Consultation on the final component of new Community Foundations DGR Category
The Australian Government has released draft ministerial guidelines for community foundations for public consultation. The guidelines are the final component needed before the new deductible gift recipient (DGR) category for community foundations can start. The guidelines will apply to entities within the new DGR category, outlining requirements for governance, record keeping and permitted activities. Treasury is inviting submissions in response to the guidelines, with consultation open up until 3 December 2024.
The Endowments for Impact Challenge: aligning investments with mission
A pioneering collaboration between six of Australia’s leading trusts and foundations is set to reshape philanthropic investments. The Endowments for Impact Challenge is an open tender competition inviting financial advisers to showcase innovative strategies for aligning charitable endowments with responsible, mission-driven investment practices.
