Community Foundations Australia CEO Ian Bird and Philanthropy Australia’s CEO Maree Sidey spoke with Nick Deychakiwsky, senior program officer at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and Dr Larry McGill, philanthropic data expert, former VP at Candid in the US and founder of Ambit 360 Consulting, during an event in Sydney this week. Long-term unemployed individuals are more likely to start work sooner, earn more and stay longer, if they are employed by a social enterprise, compared to those supported through Disability Employment Services, says a new report. White Box Enterprises has run an Australian-first Payment by Outcomes trial for jobs-focused social enterprises in partnership with the Department of Social Services. QR codes located at roadhouses on the1,500km drive from Alice Springs to Darwin connect you to digital playlists of First Nations recording artists from the region you’re driving through. On 25 September 2024, Melville ‘Mel’ Yates, FCPA, former acting Assistant Commissioner of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC), presented the 85th CPA Australia–University of Melbourne Annual Research Lecture. The theme was the role and nature of charitable organisations, the financial reporting challenges they face and whether the red tape burden of charity reporting was unduly onerous. auDA’s R&D Grant Program is a new initiative that will fund multi-year partnerships for projects that deliver impact through research and development. Up to two grants of between $300,000 and $500,000 per annum for three years are available to Australian university or research organisations registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC). Queensland charities have a fresh chance to secure new funding to help support their operations and invest in new projects to support communities throughout the state, with the opening of two Queensland Gives 2025 funding programs on 1 October. Applications for Queensland Gives' two major funding streams – the General Fund-Organisational Capacity Building grants program, and its Regional grants program - will be open until 13 December, with a particular focus on projects helping youth, women and families at risk.
