Australian philanthropy directed to climate and environment has increased at 10 times the rate of overall philanthropy, according to a new report from the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network (AEGN). Giving to charities working on climate and environment programs grew 82% in the three years to 2021. We take a look at the key findings from the Environment and Climate Change Giving Trends 2024. |

Watertrust Australia is an independent NFP that seeks to find common ground among users, First Nation groups, environmentalists, river communities and others on water and catchment policy – in the driest inhabited continent in the world. Here, we tell the story of its inception and establishment in 2021, funded by a coalition of 16 philanthropic partners. It’s a prime example of the recent boost to environmental funding referenced in AEGN’s new report.

We can increase giving to not-for-profits by double or more in the coming years by fostering trust, implementing strategic policies and engaging generations young and old, says Doug Taylor, CEO of children’s education charity The Smith Family. But it is a two-way street and NFPs will need to work hard to ensure impact also grows to meet donor expectations. |

VFFF is excited to open applications for their QLD Backing the Future grant round, awarding one-off, $50,000 grants to 10 individuals or groups of individuals who are working to support young people in rural and regional QLD. Over the course of 12 months, grant recipients will research, develop and/or accelerate an early-stage idea aligned to one of VFFF's four focus areas: Caring for the Environment, Contributing to Society, Decent Work or Exploring Christian Faith and Values.

Discovery Grants are a two-year grant to support testing and developing preventative approaches that support mental health and the conditions for wellbeing with community in South Australia to learn what works, what doesn’t and how it could be scalable, self-making, or sustainable. Each Discovery Grant is to the value of $120,000 p.a. with an additional $5,000 to support the development of tools or evaluation frameworks to inform ongoing learning for the purpose of reflection and adaptation ($245,000 total per grant).
