A message from our Board Co-chairs |
Philanthropy Australia’s CEO, Jack Heath, has indicated to the Board that he wishes to conclude his term as CEO at the end of March 2024.
We respect Jack’s decision and thank him for the significant contribution he has made to Philanthropy Australia over the past three years, including helping to put philanthropy on the Federal Government agenda, the philanthropy blueprint, helping to secure DGR1 for Community Foundations, significantly advancing our advocacy/policy agenda, input into the Productivity Commission inquiry and delivering two excellent Conferences and a Philanthropy Meets Parliament Summit.
The recruitment of a CEO is one of the most important responsibilities of the Board and we will ensure that the process is thorough and results in a smooth leadership transition for the Philanthropy Australia team as well as our members. Jack will be finishing up at the end of March 2024, and we will be initiating a recruitment process as soon as possible.
We thank you for all the support you have given to Jack and the organisation. We very much look forward to you staying on the journey with us to inspire more and better philanthropy in our quest for a generous and inclusive Australia. Yours Sincerely,
Amanda Miller OAM and Lisa George |

We invite you to attend one of two important member webinars to hear more about the Productivity Commission draft report and discuss how we can work together to advocate for reforms to create a more generous and giving Australia. While PA is formulating a strong draft response, which we will share with members in the near term, it will also be helpful to our shared goals if members in a position to make a submission take the time to do so. This is a rare and historic opportunity, and one not to be missed.

Innovation is so often driven by the insights and passion that come from personal experience and this is the case for Glenn Keys AO and the not-for-profit social enterprise Project Independence. The affordable housing provider was established with philanthropic support and is dedicated to helping people with intellectual disabilities achieve the goal that every individual deserves – the pride and security of home ownership and independent living. The impacts extend beyond bricks and mortar, and Project Independence is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when we reimagine what’s possible.

The state of the housing market has made finding safe, secure and affordable properties increasingly difficult for the near-third of Australians who rent their home. Housing insecurity can lead to homelessness and addressing this most fundamental of needs is the first step to good health, education, employment and an equitable society for all. Renting is not such a precarious option in other countries. What are the political and economic conditions that have led to Australia’s rental crisis and how can philanthropy do more to support renters and drive a systems-level shift? Erin Dolan, Program Manager at the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation and Chair of Philanthropy Australia’s Affordable Housing Funders Network, provides her view.

Philanthropy and government have come together to improve the wellbeing and opportunities of children and young people in what could be the largest ever structured collaboration between the sectors in the country’s history. The Investment Dialogue for Australia’s Children is shaping up as an unprecedented, long-term, integrated approach to support young people and their families to thrive – with community and First Nations voices to be at its heart. ARACY – Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth is acting as the Strategic Convenor of this important initiative.
