New strategic partnerships will inspire more and better philanthropy: Philanthropy Australia
Philanthropy Australia is pleased to announce major strategic partnerships with six leading philanthropic organisations.
Collectively, the partnerships will support the implementation of Philanthropy Australia’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025. The Strategic Plan’s focus is to increase engagement with individual philanthropists and philanthropic organisations in support of the goal to lift annual structured giving to $5bn by 2030. Philanthropy Australia’s vision is for a generous and inclusive Australia through more and better philanthropy.
The strategic partners are Equity Trustees, Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, Paul Ramsay Foundation, Perpetual, the Snow Foundation and an anonymous philanthropic organisation.
Quotes attributable to Jack Heath, CEO, Philanthropy Australia:
“I am delighted to announce these partnerships with some of Australia’s most innovative philanthropic organisations. It is a true collaboration of different entities from across the philanthropic sector – family foundations, a community foundation, financial intermediaries and a major foundation established through the estate of a philanthropist. This is a demonstration of the strength and diversity of the philanthropic sector.
“This year is a pivotal year for philanthropy in Australia as we progress Philanthropy Australia’s double giving agenda and contribute to the Productivity Commission’s review of charitable giving in Australia.
“2023 is also an important year for philanthropy in an increasingly uncertain world, both at home and abroad. In times of economic restraint, philanthropy is uniquely placed to take risks that governments won’t and to fund innovation and pilot better ways of delivering social outcomes that governments can then pick up.
“Alongside our Strategic Partners, we will continue to look to our valued Philanthropy Champions for their ongoing support of our policy and advocacy effort.”
Quote attributable to Jodi Kennedy, General Manager Charitable Trusts & Philanthropy, Equity Trustees:
“We know that many Australians want to give in a more strategic way, but they don’t know where to start. Having a strong and sustainable peak body like Philanthropy Australia is a critical part of educating and supporting those who can give, to do it more effectively.”
Quotes attributable to Dr Catherine Brown OAM, CEO, Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation:
“We are passionate about growing giving in Australia. As Australia’s largest community foundation (for Greater Melbourne and beyond) we understand the power of community foundations. We build financial and social capital over time so that a community is ready to respond to any of the challenges and opportunities that arise. We have seen this through the bushfires, through the pandemic and as we respond to climate change. Due to the generosity of current donors and lasting legacies from people who thought about future generations in their community, we have been able to respond to these challenges in meaningful ways. I would like all Australians to know that everyone can be a philanthropist through their local community foundation.
“Philanthropy’s special power is supporting innovation within the not-for-profit sector. This is about finding new solutions to the challenge we face as a community. Given the complex challenges we face in climate change, economic inclusion especially housing, and the need to grow social entrepreneurship, Australian philanthropy needs to grow and be brave.”
Quote attributable to Professor Kristy Muir, CEO, Paul Ramsay Foundation:
“Philanthropy is growing and changing in Australia and has significant potential to influence the most pressing issues of our time through granting, investing, building capability, and advocacy. We are proud to support Philanthropy Australia as our peak body in its vision and leadership for more and better philanthropy, and as a catalyst for lasting social change.”
Quote attributable to Caitriona Fay, Managing Partner, Community, Social and ESG Investment, Perpetual Private:
“Perpetual believes that growing giving in Australia will lead to healthier, thriving communities. As one of Australia’s largest advisers to philanthropic families and non-profit organisations, growing giving and bringing more people to philanthropy is core to who we are. We’re delighted to be partnering with other leaders in philanthropy to invest in Philanthropy Australia and to support their vision to double giving by 2030.”
Quote attributable to Georgina Byron AM, CEO, the Snow Foundation:
“Philanthropy plays a vital role in our society, addressing gaps and enabling new approaches to solving entrenched problems. We are pleased to be a part of a group of diverse funders who are investing in Philanthropy Australia’s work as an advocate, connector and educator to enable more and better philanthropy.”
