WaterAid Australia is seeking a Board Director with a background in philanthropy who is willing to work with the rest of the Board and senior management team to drive a philanthropy strategy.

WaterAid Australia is seeking a Board Director with a background in philanthropy who is willing to work with the rest of the Board and senior management team to drive a philanthropy strategy.  This is an excellent opportunity for an established Board member or someone starting out in their governance career with a passion for combining their philanthropy knowledge with the skills and expertise of other Board members to make a real difference.   We are also seeking a Board Director with a background in development, particularly with personal or professional connections to Timor-Leste or Cambodia.

WaterAid drives systems change to deliver access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.  We are at the forefront of practice on achieving climate resilience, gender equality and universal health outcomes through water, sanitation and hygiene. Our work predominately focuses on Timor-Leste, Cambodia, PNG and regionally across the Pacific, while collaborating with the rest of WaterAid’s global federation. We are however at the beginning of exciting work focusing on access to safe drinking water in remote First Nations communities in the NT.

Over the last three years WaterAid Australia has undertaken a strategic process to reflect on how power is experienced within the organisation, and we have an ambitious locally-led development approach. This process identified many strengths including our strong collaborative leadership practice. The process also led to a wholistic review of the Board from a diversity perspective, which has driven Board composition decisions over the last three years. We are proud to have an exceptional Board made up of members with a diversity of personal and professional experience overseeing our governance and strategic direction.

The Board is approaching the current Director recruitment process through this lens. WaterAid Australia is committed to having a balanced Board in terms of gender and with a diversity of experience, backgrounds and personal attributes including race, age, gender identity and sexual orientation and disability. We welcome applications from women, from First Nation’s people, from people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and from people with disabilities. We strongly encourage applicants who have lived experience of the issues WaterAid Australia work on.
