Story Factory is a not-for-profit organisation, focused on enriching the lives of young people in under-resourced communities through quality creative writing programs. Since opening in 2012, they have taken more than 65,000 student enrolments, including 12% from First Nations young people and 48% from cultural and linguistically diverse young people.

Story Factory builds young people’s literacy, confidence and creativity, with the knowledge that stories have the power to change lives.

ROLE

As Philanthropy Manager, you will be responsible for creating and implementing the major gift fundraising strategy for high-net-worth individuals, companies, trust and foundations and bequests to ensure the growth, sustainability and impact of Story Factory.

Working with the Head of Fundraising, Executive Director and board, you will build relationships with existing and new donors, build a pipeline and plan to sustain financial growth, and assist with managing relationships with key government stakeholders.

The role will suit someone with a passion for writing and literature and demonstrated experience in major donor acquisition and stewardship. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In collaboration with the Head of Fundraising, develop and execute a major donor acquisition and stewardship strategy, activating giving from established and new potential major donors, trusts and foundations and corporates, and identifying and cultivating relationships with new potential donors.
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Fundraising to develop and implement 12-month donor engagement and stewardship events
  • Track progress against fundraising targets, monitoring effectiveness and adjusting plans accordingly.
  • Work in collaboration with the Operations Manager to monitor and track the implementation of activities, programs and projects funded by major gifts, ensuring key milestones are met and funders are kept informed about any changes to planned projects
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Fundraising to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of government.
  • Start to develop a plan and framework to increase bequest activity and awareness.
  • Engage with and activate Board members to assist with the implementation of the major gifts strategy, wherever relevant.
YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • Demonstrated experience in major donor acquisition and stewardship in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Knowledge and insight into philanthropic giving.
  • Experience of developing and executing fundraising plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis, prospect research and CRM database management.
  • Demonstrated relationship management experience with the ability to develop and nurture relationships with stakeholders at all levels and in a variety of contexts.
  • Ability to work in small dynamic environment.
  • A passion for writing and for improving lives of marginalised young people.
