The Executive Director, Advancement is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Advancement Office, embedding sustainable development initiatives across each of the University’s fundraising, alumni and broader community outreach frameworks, with an overall objective of attracting substantial philanthropic investment in the University.
The Executive Director, Advancement plays a pivotal role in major donor stewardship, including providing strategy advice and support for gifts across the University and to the University’s Advancement Committee.
As a valued member of the senior management team, the role works closely with members of University Council, the senior executive team, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor International and Vice-President (Business Development), influential alumni and others to maximise engagement and to support local and international donor relations.
This position provides leadership and direct support to the Development team, Donor Engagement team, and Advancement Services and Operations and other relevant leaders across the university. This position reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor International and Vice-President (Business Development) for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

We are seeking a Executive Director, Advancement to join Advancement Office, International and Business Development, Chancellery Division.

What you need to succeed
- A combination of education (equivalent to completion of a relevant postgraduate degree) and substantial work experience in an area relevant to the position
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to build, lead, motivate and manage a diverse and effective team, including CEO/Board-level volunteers, and executive/senior management.
- Proven ability to manage budgets at a senior level within a large and complex environment.
- Advanced and sophisticated interpersonal negotiation and communications skills with the ability to develop and maintain networks of influential contacts in Queensland, nationally and internationally in the development and community engagement areas
- Demonstrated high-level skills in strategic planning and project management with a record of effective leadership and the delivery of positive outcomes, including demonstrated ability to achieve income targets and deliver major gift campaigns.
- Demonstrated ability in planning and influencing, together with a thorough knowledge of trends, funding sources nationally and internationally.
- Ensure business processes and structures are aligned are designed to effectively deliver on key objectives, as well managing risks through effective risk mitigation strategies.
Desirable:
- Experience in the tertiary education sector, preferably in a role featuring development and/or community engagement activities.
