Purpose of the Position

This role is responsible for providing leadership in the Research Office of Wesley Research Institute including identifying and, in close consultation with researchers, applying for external competitive research funding opportunities (e.g., NHMRC, government bids and tenders) and managing the lifecycle of these grants from pre-award to post-award.

This role has responsibility for commercially sensitive matters such as contract negotiations involving intellectual property, liaising with legal counsel and progressing research opportunities that involve key opinion leaders to further research capability at Wesley Research Institute.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally present with the following:

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years working in the research, hospital or university sector
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and industry best practices including: GCP, GDP, The Code, National Statement, National Principles of Intellectual Property Management, Privacy Act, PHA, QMS, CAPA/CPARs (and a basic understanding of GDPR and HIPAA)
  • Experience reviewing grant applications and their requirements for NHMRC, government bids and tenders
  • Experience negotiating contracts including in regard of Intellectual Property and commercialisation
  • Experience in post-award activities, including the preparation of reports, variations and acquittals
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skill set, including relationship building, management and negotiation skills, and the ability to listen, understand and work with diverse stakeholders including academics and clinicians
  • Excellent attention to detail and written communication
  • Ability to independently lead but similarly drive change as part of a larger team in circumstances that have high levels of ambiguity

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in research e.g., PhD, MPhil
  • Experience in industry standard grant management systems e.g. Sapphire, SmartyGrants, Blackbaud
  • Experience in Microsoft Office at a systems level, such as establishing SharePoint Sites, Libraries or Lists, PowerAutomate, PowerBI and APIs
  • Experience in driving systems level change such as across a team, department or organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in a position or having responsibilities of higher seniority
