Towards Social Inclusion Conference

Location: National Convention Centre, Canberra
Cost: $1868 - $6268
Practical approaches to making social inclusion a reality.
A socially inclusive Australia is one where all citizens have the opportunities and resources required to learn, gain employment, engage with their communities and have a voice. It is a very different Australia to the one we live in today where approximately five per cent of citizens aged 15 years and over face multiple disadvantages.
Following their election in 2007 the Rudd Government announced a commitment to decreasing disadvantage and building a more inclusive society. They established a national Social Inclusion Board, put together the Social Inclusion Toolkit and put in place mechanisms that encourage greater collaboration between governments and NGOs.
With the foundations laid, it's now up to our Federal and State Government Departments/Agencies, Local Councils and the NGO sector to make social inclusion a reality. The question is: How do we do this most effectively?
The Towards Social Inclusion Conference has been designed specifically to answer this question. It will do this through a series of practically focused presentations from Federal and State Government Departments, NGO's, Local Government and leading thinkers in this space.
If you are looking to hear practical advice, real case studies and workable solutions then this conference is for you. We look forward to seeing you there.
Ongoing conversations about social inclusion are critical to ensuring we achieve it. Don't miss out on the opportunity to become involved in this important conversation!

International Federation on Ageing 10th Global Conference
Organisation:
International Federation on Ageing and
Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria
Location: Melbourne Convention Centre
Cost: $750 - $1195
Population ageing is one of the most important challenges facing societies around the world today. It is the essential demographic characteristic of the 21st century. Far from being a crisis, being able to live more active and healthy lives as we grow old represents a triumph in human history.
The 10th Global Conference on Ageing will provide a reliable platform for a global information exchange and point of connection for all, working to generate positive social change for older people. The five themes that form the program framework - Climate Change; Social Inclusion; Human Rights; Resourcing Change; and Healthy Ageing - are expected to stimulate new conversations as well as explore in more depth more traditional subject areas. Each theme will be informed by international and regional frameworks including United Nations (UN) Principles for Older People, the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and the Active Ageing Framework of the World Health Organization.
The city of Melbourne with its splendour and time honoured Australian culture provides a unique setting to celebrate a decade of IFA global conferences. The IFA and COTA (Vic) reaches out to people of all nations and disciplines in the invitation to attend this international event where knowledge will be shared, information exchanged and solutions explored to strengthen our commitment to successful ageing across the world.

World Energy Congress, Montreal 2010 (Canada)

World Energy Congress
Location: Montreal, Canada
Responding Now to Global Challenges - Energy in transition for a living planet
The World Energy Council organizes a world congress every three years. This congress, the premier international multi-energy forum with exhibitors from the field, is an opportunity for participants to better understand energy issues and solutions from a global perspective. It brings together more than 2,500 top world leaders in the field of energy, coming from industry, governments, and international organizations, as well as the media, universities and energy industry associations.
The theme for WEC Montreal 2010 reflects the undeniable sense of urgency that faces the world's energy sector. More energy is needed from now until 2020, with prices rising significantly, while world energy demand is expected to double by 2050. One third of the world population does not yet benefit from reliable energy supply. The energy industry is faced with overwhelming environmental, social and political acceptability. In short, the situation is more challenging than ever.
With this situation in mind, the World Energy Council has set its 2008-2010 business goals & objectives accordingly : work toward responsible growth that reconciles economic development, environmental protection, and the reduction of global inequalities.
